Orvieto plays a starring role with Experience Etruria
Expo 2015 is the present of Italy: a present that is alive, bursting with promise for the future.
But there is a point where the hands of time have stopped, in which the enthusiasm of the present and the future meet unexpectedly with the seductive recollection of the past, distant but never lost, of the ancient Etruscans.
From here, Experience Etruria was born.
Experience Etruria is not a project, but a multi-sensory experience. It is not a show that brings things to Milan, but a road that brings people to Etruria.
The “Soprintendenza Archeologica del Lazio e dell’Etruria Meridionale” and the Municipalities of Viterbo and Orvieto, to give substance to a development agreement promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, have joined forces with passion, together with a broad group of small and large towns and villages: Cerveteri, Tarquinia, Tuscania, Bolsena, Montalto di Castro, Canino, Grosseto, Manciano, Scansano, Castiglione della Pescaia, Chiusi, San Casciano dei Bagni,Sarteano, Montepulciano and Murlo.
Hence was born, between the last strips of southern Tuscany and the course of the Tiber River to include part of Lazio and Umbria, a vast experimental theatre, where the visitor is the spectator, actor and director of a splendid spectacle of culture, nature and satisfaction of the senses.
Etruria reveals itself to its guests with four surprising itineraries spread out among Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, in the traces of the Etruscans and their secrets, among enchanted landscape, extraordinary archaeological sites and widespread exhibitions in the museums of the territory: the roads of water, the roads of wine and salt, the roads of oil and wheat, the roads of the woods will be the gateway to an unforgettable multi-sensory experience.
The sensory experiences will offer our senses unforgettable encounters: perfumes and ointments made according to the recipes of the ancient peoples, food and drink of Etruscan tradition, original artistic creations will merge together into in a surprising alchemy.
A 3D animation film, made in collaboration with CINECA, will tell the story, in the cities of Etruria and in the halls of the Expo in Milan, of the wonders of the sensory pathways. Ati, the Etruscan maiden already protagonist of a popular cartoon that was projected at Villa Giulia on the occasion of the exhibition “Apa the Etruscan lands in Rome”, will return to the scene, inviting visitors to follow her in this exceptional voyage. Dangling from a colourful umbrella, she will reach the most beautiful places of Etruria, setting to finding the necessary ingredients for the great Etruscan banquet that she has created for the great celebration of Expo 2015.
Indispensable condiment of this varied dish is certainly the special media platform www.experiencetruria.it, which revolves around an interactive map, from which it is possible, with a simple click, to get to know the towns in the area and their wonders, explore their paths, discover their exhibitions and the sensory experiences, travel in 3D video or, lastly, to download a special printed map, that all the visitors can bring with them in their adventures in the Etruscan land, with all the necessary indications to experience, with completeness, the extraordinary life of the past that becomes the present.
